I understand the businesses cry about being anexed.. but they should seriously get with the program.. They are apart of muncie no question and should be paying like everyone else does!
Some guy post on starpress ..
"when will ball state pay thier fair share"
--this person is an idiot.. How can you be that ignorant to not know that BSU is a state-run organization?? lol _________________ Go Cards 2009!

That's right! If Ball State would become annexed, then they would pay property taxes like everyone else. Then we'd have more money to fund our state's higher education programs, like Ball State. Wow!

A little off the subject, but down the same road: I have always wondered why a public school teacher has to subsidize their own salary by paying personal property tax? Shouldn't they get some kind of rebate?

DAN-T, by that logic, then shouldn't state government employees pay no state tax? _________________ “What is lawful is not binding only on some and not binding on others. Lawfulness extends everywhere, through the wide-ruling air and the boundless light of the sky.”

Annexation is not necessary because Ball State is already in the city. Annexation has nothing to do with whether Ball State pays property tax or not.

LTFan - I don't think you caught the sarcastic tone of this thread. We're making fun of the fact that some in Muncie feel BSU should pay property taxes and that the campus "should be annexed". It was based on the StarPress message board comments from some residents complaining about the property reassessments.

My frustration comes from the fact that not everyone in Muncie what they have in the university. THe community is fortunate to have BSU, but act like it's a burden.
Muncie has lost a good portion of it's commercial and industrial tax base, and the reassessment heavily impacted the residential property tax base. The notion that BSU is viewed as part of the problem in poorly run reassessment, rather than one of the best resources in the city. It's just amazing short-sightedness on the part of many.

Cardfan.. .you couldnt be more right!!
You take BSU out of muncie and get... Anderson..
well Anderson minus: 2 interstate exits, Hoosier Park
Richmond/new castle are in MUCH better shape than muncie would be w/o ball state!
Well basically, the people who dont like bsu and seem to act like its a burdon or that BSU gets everything... I call that "redneck muncie"
In all honesty Muncie has too many good ol boys.. that cant step outside their little box.
Other than the bsu/mcgalliard area.. Muncie is in terrible terrible economic shape!
Whats up w/ the 5.0 department there? _________________ Go Cards 2009!

I remember coming to the same conclusion in my freshman Poli Sci class 40 years ago. It must be in the water!

In times of Peace, I totally agree...
BTW, is it odd that we are still fighting these wars that the Liberals tormented Bush about? Was that to just gain power? Interesting debate...
